She received her master's in Clinical Counseling, and advanced degree in Counseling At-Risk Youth, from Johns Hopkins University. Ms. Spenadel accepts all of BCBS Insurance for therapy sessions.

She specializes in helping people accept, let go of, and heal past or current anxieties and traumas. You can work on creating your "Resiliency Strength-Kit" to help enjoy your journey. Also, she has found by teaching people how to manage stress and regulate moods, by learning mindfulness, is important in strengthening a greater sense of self. Learn to become unstuck when processing the insight you will receive from meditating, breath-work, EFT/Tapping, and learning Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT). AIT helps clients pull their past experiences and feelings out by their roots since mind/body work promotes healing from the inside out. Thinking more positively, encouraging yourself, and focusing on what will move you in a productive direction can be part of your new mindset. When people take the time to nurture themselves daily, they can connect more effectively and passionately to themselves, others, and the bigger picture with greater compassion and ease.

She enjoys spending time with her husband of over 34 yrs, 2 grown children, and friends.  She also enjoys exercising, skiing, skating, and mindfully going out and connecting to nature which brings her peace and joy.  She teaches about Holistic mindful techniques that she incorporates into her life as she mindfully "Pauses Daily" to connect ongoing to the universal light in us all.  She feels deeply that we are all connected to inspire and help each other with compassion.

She is currently working with a broad range of clients with varying emotional issues.  She sees individual clients, offers group therapy, and gives a very wide range of psychosocial workshops and trainings for families, corporations, MCPS, The Universities for Shady Grove (USG) classes for 3 years, EAP companies, therapists and nurses with CEU trainings, and for the Montgomery County government.

In addition to being a strength-based resiliency psychotherapist and coach Marilyn works with her clients concerning stress management, empowerment, learning to find oneself and to self-advocate, relationship issues, learning meditation, mindfulness, focusing, transitions, severe grief and loss, self-care, and shifting perception concerns to move in a positive direction.  Ms. Spenadel has a passion to present her workshops to help uplift others in a bigger way.  She has presented at the MACD: Maryland Association for Counseling and Development Conferences, the Meditation Museum Workshop, Geico, the Sanitation Commission, EAP companies, gave Montgomery College summer class, Johns Hopkins University alumni, and WJHS to students, parents, and faculty.  She gives ongoing counseling and workshops, CEU's for therapists, school counselors, and psycho-educational & therapeutic groups speaking on the topics of Stress Management, Resiliency, Bullying, Meditation/ Mindfulness, Changing Mistaken Beliefs to Positive Self-Talk and Positive Perceptions, Test Anxiety, Stop Smoking, Unlocking Your Hidden Potential, Empowerment, ADHD and Mindfulness, healthy communication, the integrated, community approach to counsel the elderly, lowering the stigma with getting mental illness support, Promoting Healthy & Successful Living, and more.  She enjoyed recently giving a presentation to the PTSA at WJHS to teach parents how to take care of themselves daily so not to put their stress on their children.  (She enjoys teaching parents with their children, and couples, to actively listen to each other so they feel heard)

Marilyn Spenadel is an interactive, holistic solution-focused therapist who helps her clients understand their mind/body and spiritual connection to stress and wellness, as well as, understanding and preventing chronic psychosomatic illnesses.  (These are real illnesses that stress can cause our body)  She teaches effective breath-work techniques to promote resiliency and cleansing of one's past or current stress, traumas, and triggers.  Her existential therapeutic approach provides support and practical feedback to help clients effectively shift their perception to become more empowered and hopeful.  She integrates complimentary methodologies and experiential techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to reach clients where they are at emotionally.  With compassion and empathy, she works with each individual to help them build positively on their strengths, engaging in the flow of their authentic passions, and to attain the personal growth they are hopeful to achieving.  The "Strength Kit," "Resiliency Routine," and "Authentically U Vision Board" clients can create can help them practice healthy coping skills to encourage positive growth at home for years to come.  Her clients have learned to let go of their past and instill new core beliefs that will encourage them to have a much more positive future.  Learning to shift to having positive thoughts and energy, with affirmations and breath-work, can help clients step into their greatness with much healthier relationships.

Some of Marilyn's clients have expressed, "their stress has been cleansed and lifted from their heart, they can sleep much better, they don't need to define themselves by their past, a particular issue or person isn't ruminating in their mind any longer, they stopped smoking, are thinking much more clearly and positively as they learned to believe in themselves, they are more mindful of their actions, their heart and mind feels so much lighter, they don't get angry any longer which was all life changing, they don't have severe headaches or backaches any more, they are taking less psychotropic medicines after learning to meditate, and they now are confident they have the tools to deal with any stress, conflict, or obstacles that they will have." Please see additional feedback and letter testimonials from clients, therapists, workshop and group attendees on Marilyn Spenadel's testimonial pages.

(AIT) Advanced Integrative Therapy - Breathing technique to cleanse the bodies energy centers of any harmful mind/body connections from past ancestral or own traumas, stress, triggers, ruminating thoughts, phobias, negative experiences, people, anxiety, or depression and then to instill new positive core beliefs.  This has been expressed by clients to have life changing results since they become unstuck as their negative feelings and thoughts have been taken out by the roots.  Then, this will continue to have ongoing effects to change how people feel about themselves and others to help heal their life's relationships.

These stress management and mind/body spiritual healing techniques can help you become aware of your mind/body connection, to help you to be more resilient and able to ward off stress related illnesses.  We have much more control, over our stress and wellness, than we think we have.

As a Holistic therapist and life coach I help my clients see their mistaken beliefs, also called limiting beliefs, that can keep them from achieving their goals, dreams, and healthy sense of sense.  These irrational beliefs came from somewhere.  It's one's perception of what people in their past, who they perceived didn't believe in them projected onto them and they believed - One may even have taken others' positive intentions the wrong way and took these mistaken beliefs as their own.  One's negative self-talk fuel their negative beliefs and then feelings.  Once someone believes anything negative others say or do to define them, then that makes the other person have too much power and often these thoughts become incongruent to the positive beliefs they once had.  Having an external locus of control means you let other's thoughts, feelings, or behaviors effect who you are.  Learning to have an internal locus of control will help you believe you are in charge of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and not let others control how you feel about yourself.

The work and the shift begins when you can recognize your irrational beliefs that limit your success and growth. Working on understanding the source of one's beliefs, and learning to make yourself the new positive source of your beliefs is the first step.  Anyone can STOP their negative self-talk by replacing them with daily affirmations they want to believe. You can learn how to believe in your positive affirmations by using various mind/body techniques.  It really works; these affirmations can be so uplifting and empowering.  Such as, "I'm not defined by my negative beliefs or feelings, the step I will take today to step into my greatness is____, I believe in myself and my abilities today and always, I'm okay with the ups and downs of life, I'm not the ups and downs of life, I'm not my stress, I'm moving in a positive direction, and Being Imperfect is Perfect."
Learning and then Practicing your daily "Resiliency Routine" of EFT/Tapping 2-3 minutes a day, practice the STOP and POD techniques, Mindfully Meditating, and/or Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) breath work, sensory healing, can help you shift your mind/body and spiritual connection from negative to positive.  Your stress from your past can be embedded within you and be re- triggered again and again.  Learning to cleanse yourself with certain mindful breathing and cognitive techniques can help you move forward in a positive direction.  Accepting your feelings, breathing through them, will help the hard ones dissipate.  Your perception and then your feelings will become more hopeful when you mindfully shift your negative thoughts to positive thoughts and believe in you.  You are worth the work and If you think you can, you can!
